Suddenly, the man was blinded by a pulsating blue light. Shielding his eyes with his free hand, he wondered what was going to happen to him next. Slowly the intensity of the light lessened and noticing the change, he lowered his hand.
Landing slowly before him with a muffled thump, was a battle scarred warrior. Grimy black hair hung to his shoulders and his outstretched wings were as dark as midnight. Folding his wings, the warrior looked the man up and down with distain in his golden eyes and his lips twisted into a sneer. Turning to the female he said, “You can not have him. He has been judged by the Highest authority and deemed worthy of another attempt at life.”
With a shriek so sharp it caused the man’s ears to bleed the female vanished in a flash of fire, tearing the flesh from his hand as she disappeared, leaving the stench of sulfur hanging in the air. The man looked from the waterfall of blood rushing from his hand to the warrior standing beside him. The warrior placed his calloused hand over the gapping wound in the man's flesh and the blood flow ceased as the wound healed, leaving an angry scar in its place. When the warrior released him, the man stared in wonder at the puckered flesh.
“Not that I’m complaining, but why am I being given this second chance?” the man asked with fear in his eyes.
Once again looking down upon the man, the warrior growled, “You have squandered the life gifted to you, but for reasons beyond my comprehension, He has given you a second chance. DO NOT waste this one, there will not be another.” With that the man felt a crushing sensation in his chest and he was swimming in a sea of squeezing pain, before the world exploded into blinding brightness.
Holding the screaming newborn under its bottom and supporting his neck, the doctor called out, “It’s a boy!”
