Hey boys and girls! This is Moviegoer Grim back at ya once again to impose my own personal opinion on all of you, like I so often do, but only for your own enjoyment. Okay this month I would like to share three with all of you--each can be found on DVD--so let's get to it!

All right, the first film that has landed on my hit list is the sequel to 1996's indie classic "Clerks", with "Clerks II”!

Ten years after the original, slackers Dante (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) have become ‘funployees’ at Mooby’s fast food. In addition to offending customers and debating anything and everything, their responsibilities now include ragging on their uber-nerd coworker (Trevor Fehrman) and teasing their sexy manager (Rosario Dawson). But when Dante announces his plan to leave New Jersey, Randal plots a shocking and hysterical going away party that will alter their lives forever.

In my own opinion, I felt that Kevin Smith, the writer, director, and editor of the flick had produced more laughs then the movie's decade year old counter part. Also, I dare to say that the sequel is a much better movie altogether.

Now don't get me wrong, but it's not something the lady's would likely enjoy; then again they may. I know a couple women that enjoyed it. With everything that has been said, and the fact that this is the first Kevin Smith movie ever made that actually had a moral to the story, I give "Clerks II" Three satisfied Howls of Pleasure .

The next film I would like to go over is the only 'Horror movie' of this month's salvo of DVDs, a remark of Wes Craven’s 1977 cult classic, "The Hills Have Eyes."

The Carters are an idyllic American family traveling through the great American southwest. But their trip takes a detour into an area closed off from the public, but more importantly from society. An area originally used by the US. Government for nuclear testing that was intended to be empty...or so they thought. When the Carter's car breaks down at the old site, they're stranded...or are they? As the Carters may soon realize that what seemed like a car casually breaking down, might actually be a trap. This trap might be perpetrated by the inhabitants of the site who aren't pulling a prank, but are out to set up a gruesome massacre.

This time made by the French film maker, who brought you "High Tension,” Alexandre Aja. they came into the movie giving the Craven classic a slightly different view of things and much better special effects then the original.

Much to my surprise, I can honestly say that the remake was better. Not only was it BETTER, it was immeasurably better, so for the remake of "The Hills Have Eyes," I give another Three Howls of Pleasure . On a side note, I just found out that the studios which produced this film are currently working on part two, and I CAN NOT WAIT!

The last movie to be reviewed this month is Bryan Singer's version of another Comic icon, but this time it's a part of the DC comic universe. So who is it? It's a bird? It’s a plane? No it's "Superman Returns." (Sorry, couldn't help my self)

A hero for our millennium, and not a moment too soon, because during the five years Superman sought his home planet, things changed on his adopted planet. Nations moved on without him. Lois Lane now has a son, a fiancé and a ‘Pulitzer’ for “Why the World Doesn’t Need Superman.” And Lex Luthor has a plan that will destroy millions—no, billions—of lives.

I could not believe how good this movie was! Anyone who knows how I feel about Singer and his Super hero movies, will understand my surprise. Well, lets just say when I heard that he (Singer) was off with X-Men 3, to make this flick, I couldn't have been happier. I thought that he was going to ruin this super hero, like he did with marvel's iconic Merry Mutants.

But I was wrong and boy I was wrong! Singer goes past the issues of today into the future of tomorrow; he shows us what will happen to Supes some time from now. I was very happy with the story! Brandon Routh made a great Superman, and Kevin Spacey made the evilest version of Lex Luther ever portrayed on either the small or silver screen! Even Jason, the son of Lois Lane, did a wonderful job! It worked, it all just worked! And for that I give Bryan Singer's “Superman Returns” an amazing Four Howls of super powered Pleasure !

All right ladies and gents, it's Reaper Rick back at ya with some holiday reviews which have nothing to do with the holidays. And here we go.

First off, "Lucky # Slevin" was a sleeper when it was shown in theaters, because I heard very little about this flick aside from a few commercials on the telly. And I find this lack of advertising somewhat surprising, considering the all star cast involved with this movie. "Slevin" starred Bruce Willis, Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley. I knew almost nothing about the movie before I saw it, so was surprised by how good it was, if a bit hard to follow, initially.

Hartnett plays a guy who visits a friend in New York, but when he arrives the friend has vanished, so Hartnett takes up residency in the dude's apartment. Living there, Hartnett is confused for the actual tenant by two opposing gangs, both of whom want the money his friend owes them due to a number of bad bets. From there on, it becomes confusingly funny.

Hartnett agrees to bump off the son of Crime Leader #2 (Ben Kingsley), in order to wipe out the debt he supposedly owes to Crime Leader #1 (Morgan Freeman). But Crime Leader #2 wants him to kill Crime Leader #1 to clear up the debt he supposedly owes to Crime Leader #2--I think. In the meantime, Bruce Willis is a professional hit man who is hired by both Crime Leaders to kill the other one, as well as Hartnett--I think. The only thing I'm sure about is Lucy Liu is Hartnett's friend's neighbor and she tries to help him (Hartnett) figure out what the heck is going on.

This may all sound somewhat confusing--actually, it was, rather--but it all works out in the end and the ending is a total surprise. This flick has lots of intrigue, surprises and hidden agendas. It is also a very funny, well made movie that will keep you guessing from the very first scene. I really enjoyed it and give "Lucky # Slevin" Three and a Half Howls of Pleasure . (By the way, you may wonder just where Lucky # Slevin comes into the movie? Well, that's another whole story. Rent the flick to find out!)

Next we go back a few years to review one of my fav sci-fi/horror flicks from John Carpenter. "Ghosts of Mars" (2001) starred a cool Ice Cube (Three Kings), Natasha Henstridge (Species), Jason Stathan (The Transporter) and Pam Grier (Jackie Brown). Cube is a three time loser, now accused of murder and the rest of them are cops who are supposed to pick up Cube from a mining facility and transport him to jail. Did I mention that all of this takes place on Mars? Humans have been mining on Mars and trying to terra form the planet for a decade or so.

Problems develop when the cops arrive at the mining camp and everyone appears to have disappeared, except for a few criminals (including Cube) locked in the town pokey. Then they start finding bodies, minus their heads, and things go downhill from there. Seems that while blasting, the miners released an evil entity imprisoned by the original Martians thousands of years ago. Needless to say, this thing is pissed off and starts taking revenge on the human population, turning some of them into homicidal maniacs with a taste for blood. There follow bloody fights for survival as the cops attempt to get away with their lives and warn the rest of the Martian population.

This is a suspenseful tale of terror with lots of gore and bloody sequences--a true John Carpenter flick. It's also a fun film (if you enjoy this sort of thing) and I give "Ghosts of Mars" Three Howls of horrible Pleasure .

I'm pretty sure that just about everyone has already seen "Pirates of the Caribbean--Dead Man's Chest" (except for David K. Montoya) and I myself recently got to watch it. I thought the first 'Pirate' movie was good, but 'Dead Man's Chest' is even better than the original. Back in the cast are Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, who do battle with a squid-faced Davy Jones and his dead minions over a chest with a secret treasure inside.

This flick has Lots of action and amazing special effects. Some were disappointed with the ending, but it leads straight away into the third 'Pirate' movie, which I can't wait for. If for some reason you have not yet seen these two great movies (David), you should rush right out and rent them this weekend. They are well worth the effort. Just make sure you have lots of popcorn on hand (but you might decide to forego sushi after watching DM'sC). All in all, I give the second 'Pirate' movie Four rousing Howls of Pleasure .
