He spent the remainder of the day gathering what he would need to set a trap for the monster, but the bait would have to be his daughter. Night came and George tried to prepare in his mind the needed steps. Everything was ready. He would try to end this, once and for all.
Waiting on the dark stillness of the night he tried to calm his racing heart and tried to remain motionless as he finally saw the covers under his daughters bed start to move. He could not make out a physical shape, but only a dark type of smoke moving for his daughter. All he could do was wait for the right moment.
Danielle moved slightly as the smoky creature loomed over her and finally it slid around her body like a blanket and lifted her out of the bed and then carried her into the hall. George had to wait just a little longer even though he knew the monster was making a move to take his daughter tonight.
As it reached the top of the stairs George watched it drag her sleeping body slowly down the steps, trying not to make any noise as it went. He then stood quickly and shined a flashlight at it from the top of the stairs.
All he heard was a hiss from somewhere near the bottom of the stairs. He boldly announced that the monster was trapped. He heard another hiss and then a scratchy voice said, "My Body!" and then heard the thump of his daughter's body move down another step.
George tried to remain calm. “There is holy water at the bottom of the steps monster," he shouted, "and there is no where to run from the light.” His daughter started to whimper; although he could not see her. He had no time left and George turned on the hallway light.
Danielle’s body was completely encased by the shadow and it had moved up to her neck. Once the light hit the shadow it screamed in agony as the light burned its now fragile body and melted from sight. Relieved that the holy water at the bottom of the stairs acted as a blockade that the monster could not pass, he went to collect his daughter.
He carried her up the stairs and put her to bed, kissed her on the cheek and told her he loved her. When he turned his back to leave for the night he did not notice the red glow in her eyes.
