Talk Show
Part One
By: Steve Bolin

This story takes place approximately one year after the events in Casket Case.

Who would’ve thought that killing your wife could be so easy?

Becky had been in the tub soaking for what seemed like hours. When Tim eased the bathroom door open, he saw her lying in the water, sleeping like a baby. Her face was smeared with some odd-colored cream and cucumber slices covered her eyes. Cripes, she was such a loser.

Tim’s eyes scanned Becky’s naked body. He could hardly believe how disgusting she was. Why did the woman bother with facial therapies? It was her huge rolls of fat that needed work. Cripes, she looked like a pink, baby whale in that tub. She must’ve greased the sides just to fit all the way in.

Tim wouldn’t allow himself to be distracted by loathing. He was here to kill his wife and nothing could stop him. This was his plan from the beginning, the reason he married her in the first place.

Immediately after their wedding, he bought a dual life insurance policy. One million dollars of coverage was expensive, but they could afford it. Becky’s rich parents made sure she never went without. Twin policies were critical, making him look less suspicious if she “accidentally” died.

He stood, looking down on his human-whale bride, after only three weeks. In his gloved hands, he held a combination radio/CD player. Moving stealthily, he plugged the radio’s extension cord into the bathroom outlet. Then he sat the electrical device on the edge of her tub. The pre-selected station began playing soft, gentle music at a whispering volume.

With his hand still on the radio, Tim took one last look at his wife. He nearly burst out in laughter when he saw that a slice of cucumber had slid off her left eye and down onto her cheek. All thought of mirth quickly vanished when Becky opened her eyes and stared in surprise at his presence. He was momentarily caught off guard by her awakening. She glanced over and saw Tim’s hand on the radio. It took her only a moment to figure out what was happening.

Becky opened her mouth to scream. Before her vocal cords could operate, Tim pushed the radio into the water. As he jumped back, sparks of electricity danced over Becky’s fat, nude figure like animated fingers of death. Water splashed everywhere as her body involuntarily thrashed about as though she were having a seizure.

The pungent aroma of cooking flesh filled the bathroom as Becky’s frantic thrashings came to a sudden halt. Unfortunately, Tim couldn’t hang around to gloat over his perfect crime. He had to hurry back to his neighbor’s big party before he was missed. He smiled as he quickly walked out of the bathroom. He thanked the Dark Powers for his older model home. A newer house would’ve been up-to-date with the latest building codes, including an automatic circuit breaker to prevent accidental electrocution.

Later in the evening, after the neighbor’s party was over, he’d feign intoxication then ask for assistance getting home and into bed. Both he and his friend would “discover” Becky, boiled alive in the bath tub. Sobbing on his friend’s shoulder, Tim would give an Oscar-winning performance as the shocked and grieving husband.

In the morning, he’d be a very rich man.
