Riding Shotgun
By: David K. Montoya
Pulling away from the booth, no one said a word. It wasn’t until they turned back onto the Interstate when Benjamin said, “I can’t believe Bobby died. He was so young and full of life. How could something like that happen to a guy like him?”
“Yeah, he was a good guy. But let’s not think about that right now. This is like old times. I’m here, you here riding shotgun--what could be better?” Mark asked as he drove off into the darkness.

“That was a beautiful service Mrs. Hackmen, I’m sure Mark would have been pleased,” one of the mourners said.
“Thank you, Bobby, but what happened to your friend, Benjamin? Mark used to talk so highly of him.”
“I don’t know Mrs. Hackmen, I called and left a message with his assistant, but he never called me back. I guess he was just too busy to come,” Bobby said.
