Angel on Earth
By: L. M. Mercer
I keep my vigil through the twilight,
Watch over you in the dying light.
I am nearly lulled to sleep,
By the monitor's relentless beep.
Silently I whisper a prayer,
And carefully brush back your hair.
Even though visiting hours have long since past,
I'm allowed to stay, as long as I may safely last.
As evening starts and daylight wans,
The skies open up and it begins to rain.
For nearly sixty hours I've been awake--
It's almost more than a body can take.
The nurse in charge, she draws the line,
I have to leave; it's long past time.
I lean over and kiss your small face,
And steal a glance around this place.
I see faces of those striving not to fail,
As they care for ones both small and frail.
Although I know I can no longer stay,
I'm confident they will help my angel, born just today.

About the Author
|

Even though she has been writing for some time, L. M. Mercer has never
had her work viewed by the public at large. She had mainly used writing
as a release for her stressful existence (never intending for others to
read her poems), but was badgered into submitting some pieces by friend
and coworker, Kevin Magnus, who told her to 'Stop wasting your talent'.
While never admitting to him that she is very grateful for his badgering,
she will henceforth share with us her talent, both lyrical and oft times
somber, now that she is our newest contributor to the "World of Myth".
