"I see," Ms. White said, although she wasn't at all sure that she did. "Perhaps we can get on with our business."
"Of course," the detectives chorused, smiling once again.
"I would like you to locate my ex-husband, Jake," she told them. "He disappeared several months ago and no one has seen him since then."
"Do you have any idea where he might be?" Dale asked.
She hesitated for just a moment, crossed her legs and shifted her position in the chair to get more comfortable. "I know this may sound strange," she began, "but I've heard that he...well, that he left...this world...for another place."
The two detectives merely blinked. "And you wish us to find him for you?" Overhill asked.
Ms. White frowned. "Didn't you hear what I said?" She leaned forward and placed a fist on the desk. "He has vanished from this world and is someplace else. Possibly in another dimension," she stated, firmly.
"Oh, we heard you, madam," replied Dale.
"Indeed we did," said Overhill. "This is not as unusual a situation as you might think."
"Quite so," Dale added. "We actually deal with these types of cases on a regular basis." The two detectives nodded agreement.
"Might we inquire just why it is you wish to have him to found?" Overhill asked.
"Why?" she said and glared at them. "Why? Because he's alive and he's enjoying himself, that's why!" she shouted and slammed her fist down on the desk to emphasize her statement.
The two detectives moved back slightly from the desk, their hands now resting protectively in their laps.
"Oh, I see."
"Yes, of course."
"We shall get right on the case."
"Indeed we will, indeed we will."
Ms. White glared from one of them, to the other. "That's it? That's all of the information you need?"
