Day 4
He came again today. I am very glad for this. For the first time I
was excited, purely excited, for his return. He brought with him an
excitement and an energy I had not seen in him before. He said
several times, "Soon, soon, the time will come soon." I cannot know
what time he was referring to. At first I had thought he was warning
me that he was going to lay me out on the table again soon. But I
realized quickly that this was not the case.
We talked again for some time. He told me of some of the others
like
himself. He said that they knew of me, that they knew every detail
about me. How do they know of me if I have never seen them? Because
he had told them. He had told them about me before I had even come
into being. They were waiting, he said, waiting until I was ready.
And then?
"Soon. Soon you will see."
Also, he brought for me another book. It is a new kind of book. He
asked me to read it carefully, slowly. He told me to allow my mind
to relax as I read it, to let my thoughts wander if they desired.
"What is this book about?" I asked.
"It is about pirates."
I resign the day,

Day 5
So, there are seas. On these seas travel ships. On these ships,
travel men. So the seas, they must be huge. How can the seas, the
world, be so large that two ships filled with men may be so far in
relative distance from one another that they are unable to see each
other, though there be no obstructions between them? This seems
impossible to me. Also, the men - I do not understand. It is as I
had felt before, here in my room. As he (he explained that he is
called, that his name, is William), as William had given things to
me, and taken things away, men do again and again in this book of
pirates. And they take from one man and give to another. They cause
damage to one another, so much so as to cause an end to life.
And I am confused. This is, surely, a sad thing. Why are these men
doing these things? Yet, something in the way that the language is
laid out, something in the way the words are put down, it is a thing
that excites me. Why?
I hope that these pirates are the men that know about me. I hope Iwill meet them 'soon'. This must be true, for what other reason
would he have given this book to me?
He did not come today, and I feel alone. I must continue to read so
that I might understand the pirates when I meet them. This book is much
harder then the numbers.
Avast, I sign,
