Eventually, she gave up trying to explain herself to me, wished the two of us a good afternoon and left the room, but not before stopping at the door to give Michael a big smile. I sat down next to my son. I couldn't help but laugh. He tried to explain but I told him to save his excuses; I was once his age and was happy to see him doing better.

For that hour we chatted a little about everything that had happened thus far until Michael showed signs of tiring. I told him to get some more rest and that I had to get back to work. He told me that he thought it was odd that we all had a prearranged work schedule. I agreed with him and said to my son that everything here was very odd.

I was quickly assigned with another task. I had finished the three or four duties assigned to me that evening. The time passed quickly, while I was lost in my thoughts about what went on at the barn house across the pasture.

My thoughts ran away with me. I could not figure out what Dr. Vaughan and his daughter were doing out there in the barn house. What was so secretive that no one was even allowed in the area? I knew I would be tempting fate, but I decided that that night I was going to investigate the forbidden farm house.
