I awoke sometime later, covered in shattered glass. As I sat up the glass fell down into my lap. My head ached from where I had hit the steel bar. Finally, I got to my feet and the first thing I noticed was that all of the windows had been blown out from the explosion. As I looked outside, I realized that it was midmorning. It was clear and sunny. I put my head out the glassless window and saw countless dead Unluckys everywhere. The professor had done it. I’m sorry it cost him his life, though.
When I brought my head back inside, I saw Richard out of the corner of my eye. I walked over to him and made sure he was all right. We then awoke the others, but as I reached the front of the bus, I discovered Michael was not in the driver’s seat and the door was opened.
I rushed outside and found Michael sitting on top of a bench that survived the blast. It overlooked the city of Ely. I walked over and sat next to my son. He told me that we were going to make it to Haven now, because the professor sacrificed his life. I told him that we would indeed. Michael asked why would someone who barely knew us would willingly die to save us. I didn’t have an answer for him; I just put my arm around my boy and we sat there in silence for some time, saying a little prayer for the man who gave his life for us.
